A Testimonial... penned by Steve Marsh
Intelligent. Charismatic. Highly talented. Gorgeous looking. A brilliant musician .... but that's enough about me, I'm here to talk briefly about the talented Mr. Rowley.
I've known this person, man and beast, for many years and the two unsettling characteristics associated with him are, firstly, his astonishing virtuosity on not just the one instrument, the guitar (the instrument I taught him to play, by the way - I mention this just in case he gets mega-famous; and may I remind him that he promised to wear his 'I Woz taught by Steve Marsh' T-shirt if this fame ever came his way) - but also on the piano and saxophone. And now, having listened to 'Unequal Measures' I find that he has added singer/songwriter to his list - will the little show-off never stop?! (Don't tell me he did the artwork on the cover too, that would be more than a mortal stomach could take).
The other trait I have always found unnerving and, in all honesty, maddening about Kris is his inability to believe in himself. I don't think I have ever known him satisfied with any musical end product he has produced and have heard him pull himself down after performances which other players would give their right arm to give (I am conscious that without a right arm this would be more than a little tricky, but it was just a turn of phrase). I realise no artiste is ever really one hundred per vent contented with their work but there comes a time when someone as capable as Kris Rowley has to actually admit that they do have something rather special; a cut above the rest of many others in this competitive field, and just sit down and be happy and proud.
'Unequal Measures' is inspired song-writing and performing from the first unequal measure to the last one. There is not one track I regard as a 'filler' - they are all exceptional in their own way!
Is that alright Kris? I missed out that bit about you being one of the all-time great natural musicians cos I couldn't quite read your handwriting. Can I have the money now?

You know you've made it when you appear on a blog - by K
I haven’t the foggiest who this kid is, where he comes from or what he’s all about. I just know that I stumbled across him on YouTube and found myself weirdly enjoying his music. His style and voice bears a strong resemblance to Nick Drake, if Nick Drake had been on the appropriate anti-depressants and had listened to the Beatles.

A quick summary according to Jon Shelton
Kris Rowley writes songs the way others might confide to a loved one. He draws you near enough to see, yet far enough to wonder. It is nearly impossible to turn away from his melodic prose without taking a part of him with you, or leaving a bit of yourself behind.
Rustic ochers, slate blues and weathered woods harbor crystal reflections, pointed self-deprecation, and desperate hopefulness all wrapped in inspired melody and fine hewn phrasing. Very few can claim his breadth of emotion, penned so eloquently and honestly. Prepare to be enveloped. Allow yourself an ounce of participation.
Rewards await within. There is nothing casual in listening to his music. Though his words are held aloft by the deftest of melodic genius, they nonetheless demand an unswerving ear. It would be easy to call his music mellow, if not for the torrents that drive it.
The juxtaposition between content and container are one of his key endearments. His introspection seems always on the edge of hope, more expecting than espousing. There are silver linings emerging from every dark cloud and clever irony at every bend. A Kris Rowley song feels as though it always was.

Kris Rowley - who is he, and where did he come from?
The question is less about where he came from but more where he's going, or to start with, where he is now. Kris Rowley is a singer-songwriter hailing from Derbyshire, England. He has been writing songs for only a handful of years, though before this his passion was instrumental pieces, mainly piano, guitar and chamber works.
He found his way to releasing an album of original tunes by way of a popular online video sharing network, where he secured himself an appreciative and supportive audience. If it hadn't been for this push, these tunes would be gathering dust somewhere on his hard drive, for he is a most understated soul.
Through his exposure online, Kris received a number of enquiries from television production companies interested in using his tunes as their sonic backdrop.
"Unequal Measures", Kris's first EP, is a self-composed, home-recorded, bedroom engineered release; more an insight into the 'process' than anything else - an intimate affair, if you will. It's available to down now from CD Baby so check out the download section.
